Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
First, remember that Allah’s mercy is vast and He loves those who turn to Him in repentance, no matter how many times they slip. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Every son of Adam sins, and the best of those who sin are those who repent.”
— [Tirmidhi]
Here are some important steps for sincere repentance (Tawbah), especially when the sin is repeated:
1.
Acknowledge the Sin and Feel Regret Truly feel remorse for the sin. Repentance is not just words — it comes from the heart. Recognize the harm the sin causes to your soul and your relationship with Allah.
2.
Stop the Sin Immediately Even if you fear you might slip again, make a sincere effort to stop now. Delaying repentance makes the heart harder.
3.
Make a Firm Intention Not to Return This is key. Promise Allah sincerely that you will strive to avoid the sin in the future, even if you stumble. Don’t despair if you fall again; keep renewing your intention.
4.
Increase Good Deeds Good deeds wipe away bad deeds. Increase your prayers, charity, reading Qur’an, and dhikr. These will strengthen your heart against temptation.
5.
Seek Help Through Dua Ask Allah sincerely to help you overcome this sin. Make dua regularly, and use the Prophet’s recommended supplications, such as:
“O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.”
— [Tirmidhi]
6.
Avoid Triggers and Bad Company Stay away from situations, places, or people that encourage you to sin. Surround yourself with righteous friends who remind you of Allah.
7.
Be Patient and Persistent Tawbah is a continuous journey. Allah knows your struggle and will reward your persistence. Never despair of His mercy.
Final Reminder:Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’”
— [Surah Az-Zumar 39:53]
Keep returning to Allah sincerely, and trust that He will forgive you. Your effort to repent again and again shows your love for Him and your hope in His mercy.
May Allah make your heart steadfast and grant you success in this life and the Hereafter.
Wa Allahu A’lam (And Allah knows best).
